It was an incredible pitching performance this past weekend in Bettendorf, Iowa for Madison Revolution 16U Midwest, including a perfect game, a one hitter, and some close games against tough competition!
The team made the trip to Iowa to compete in the USSSA February Fastpitch Frenzy. On Friday night, RHP Allison Podjaski set the tone for the weekend, throwing an incredible shut out game for the 2-0 win against Wisconsin Scorpions. Allison allowed 1 hit, gave up no walks, and struck out 15 of the 19 batters she faced. Overall, Allison threw 66 pitches, and 56 of them were strikes.
The dominating presence on the mound continued into Saturday, where Allison, Sophia Avena, and Maddie Barsness all made appearances for Midwest. Sophia and Maddie combined for five strikeouts and three earned runs against a tough Illinois Select team who ended up winning second place in the tournament.
Allison made another appearance against Big Game 08, who went on to win the entire tournament. However, Allison held strong against them, striking out five and allowing four runs. It was a close game, and Midwest fell just short to end the game 3-4.
Midwest came back strong on Saturday night to start bracket play against Chicago Force. Sophia had an incredible showing, throwing a perfect game! She pitched three innings, struck out seven, walked none, allowed zero hits or runs. She threw only 34 pitches in the shutout, and 28 of them were strikes.
Midwest ended the weekend with a close loss against Palatine Stingrays, 0-1, on Sunday morning. Allison and Sophia combined in the game to throw 10 strikeouts, and only allowed 2 walks and three hits overall.
We are so excited to see what this team can do moving forward, and are so excited to see our pitchers perform at the highest level!
